It was he who wrote the short but groundbreaking essay “Towards a poor theatre” in the mids. I want to highlight no more than two aspects of Grotowski’s theatre and his vision of what theatre should be like. I possibly do not have to go into detail about the overall aesthetic of a “poor” theatre. Everything is reduced to a minimum.   On the way back to school from half term, I was reading a book based around Jerzy Grotowski, a Polish theatre practitioner, called Towards A Poor Theatre. And it's certainly an interesting approach. It is based particularly on minimalist theatre - he discusses theatre is not lights, sound, set, costume or anything like that.
